2016’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) came to a close last week in Las Vegas, Nevada. Showcasing the latest and greatest in consumer technology, more and more every year the show is geared toward interesting and innovative gadgets to make your home smarter, safer and state-of-the-art. Let’s explore some highlights from this year’s show and discover pieces that may find their way into your home.

Last week Samsung introduced to the world its Family Hub Refrigerator. Connected via WIFI, the Family Hub helps manage your refrigerator’s inventory, tracks product expiration dates and communicates information directly to your smartphone or tablet. “We are transforming the communal kitchen experience for consumers in ways that will re-define how they view and use their refrigerator,” said John Herrington, Senior Vice President, General Manager of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics America. “Now more than ever, we are delivering in a big way on the promise of the Internet of Things.” The Family Hub also features built in speakers for playing music and a 21.5-inch full HD LCD display on the door. It will be available this Spring.

Boasting that it welcomes, “a new era of clothing care,” the LG Styler is closet that steams and cleans your clothes. Already for sale, the machine is a luxurious companion to your wardrobe; the Styler kills 99.9% of germs and 92% of the chemicals leftover from a typical dry-cleaning service. The machine is available in various sizes and capacities and LG hopes to see these installed in Airports as well as Hotels, Offices and Restaurants.

Equipped with aroma modules, this unique alarm wakes you by quietly flooding your olfactory senses with a scent of your choice. This gentler alarm clock also features an optional audio alarm to co-exist with its innovative alternative wake up call. The Sensorwake is currently available for pre-order.

Home security played a huge role in this year’s showcase at CES. French-based company Netamo’s Presence is a smart home ecosystem featuring a state-of-the-art outdoor camera to keep a close eye on your property with vehicle, person and animal detection. The system allows the user to set up specific alert zones within the camera’s scope and can be monitored from smartphones and tablets alike.

Though we’re still a few years away from seeing this come to market, Panasonic’s “Transparent TV” technology may just revolutionize how TVs fit into our living and entertaining spaces. When not in use, the bookshelf behind the TV is visible, but when the TV is woken up, a full HD screen instantly appears over the space. State-of-the-art controls and LED technology bring this prototype to life.
