For 30 years the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) has been entertaining and enlightening audiences in Austin, Texas. The annual festival combines music, technology and film into a unique and captivating experience, providing a means for artists to showcase their work and often sets the stage for world-premieres and first looks at future successes.
Austin serves as a perfect venue for this event as it has long been a cultural hotbed; when the festival was first held in March of 1987, Austin’s music scene was the driving force. “The event has changed in many surprising and meaningful ways since 1987,” says Ronald Swanson, SXSW managing director. “But at its core, SXSW remains a tool for creative people to develop their careers by bringing together people from around the globe to meet, learn and share ideas.
Aside from captivating film screenings, concerts and technology demonstrations, SXSW also features thought-provoking talks from entrepreneurs, artists and leaders. This year’s keynote speakers include President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, New York Times bestseller, Dr. Brené Brown and Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank.
SXSW started last week on March 11th and runs through March 20th. For a complete schedule of activities, click here.
