Pleasanton Unified School District Ranked In Top 10 Best In State

Pleasanton Unified School District Ranked In Top 10 Best In State

As the 2017-18 school year kicks off, parents and students heading to their first day of school can see how the Pleasanton Unified School District stacks up against others in the county and state as Niche.com has released its annual rankings of best schools and school districts in the country.

The 2018 rankings released this month rank elementary, middle and high schools as well as school districts. According to Niche, the best school district in the state is the Palo Alto Unified School District. With an overall Niche grade of A+, the district received a grade of A+ in academics, teachers, clubs and activities, college prep and a C + in health and safety. In the category of diversity, Niche awarded the school district an A+.

The Pleasanton Unified School District ranked #9 in California and #1 in Alameda County. The Pleasanton District earned an overall grade of A+ from Niche, earning an A+ in academics, teachers and college prep; an B in clubs and activities; and B+ in diversity and B in health and safety.

To arrive at these rankings, Niche looked at data from the U.S. Department of Education as well as test scores, college data and ratings collected from Niche users. The methodology for each category of ranking varied. (Click here for more information on how Niche calculates its rankings.)

Niche assigns a standardized score for each factor, which is then weighted before an overall score is calculated for each school district. The overall scores are again standardized and some districts are disqualified from receiving a final letter grade if there isn’t enough data. School districts are then ranked numerically and assigned grades.

According to Niche, these are the ten best school districts in Alameda County:

  1. Pleasanton Unified School District
  2. Albany City Unified District
  3. Piedmont City Unified District
  4. Dublin Unified School District
  5. Berkeley Unified School District
  6. Alameda City Unified School District
  7. Fremont Unified School District
  8. Castro Valley Unified School District
  9. Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District
  10. New Haven Unified School District

Niche’s data for its K-12 school district rankings comes from various sources including the U.S. Department of Education, the National Center for Education Statistics and the Civil Rights Data Collection. The rankings also rely on data that is self-reported by Niche users and schools. (Click here to learn more about where Niche’s data comes from.)

Market Spotlight | Croatia

One of the newest regions added to the Sotheby’s International Realty brand’s global presence, Croatia is known for its history, waterfront lifestyle and idyllic islands. “Our luxury real estate market is ready to blossom,” says Pažanin. “There is great potential here and we’re seeing a lot of expansion. [Croatia] as a destination is becoming globally recognizable, with an ever-growing interest in tourism, but also investments. We’re in constant contact with investors and looking for projects that meet the high standards of our clientele.”

Like in many other places around the world, people are attracted Croatia’s rich history. “Current trends show that buyers are interested in homes in the hearts of our historic cities such as Split, Dubrovnik, and Opatiia,” says Pažanin. “We also know that buyers are interested in exclusive, coastal homes on the beaches of the Dalmatian Islands. In terms of architecture, our clients are looking for modern homes that provide a sense of comfort and familiarity. This is a new trend in a market where Mediterranean-inspired design dominates; mostly built in the beginning of the 20th century, these homes are being revitalized for contemporary standards.”

Sotheby’s New York | The Flown Apollo 13 Flight Plan

apollobanner.jpg.webrend.1920.350

One of the most exciting pieces in Sotheby’s July 20th Space Exploration sale is the Flown Flight Plan from the Apollo 13 Mission. Used by the crew on the spacecraft during the mission, it bears the handwriting and detailed notes of all three crew members, with Mission Commander James Lovell’s writing in black felt-tip pen, Lunar Module Pilot Fred Haise’s notes in pencil and Command Module Pilot Jack Swigert’s notes in blue ballpoint pen.

apollo5

The document records in exacting detail the actions taken by the crew during the mission, including the crucial changes to the flight plan communicated to them by Capcom after the explosion, and the innovative procedures that saved the crew’s lives. It is an incredible eyewitness account of the most dramatic and harrowing mission of the Apollo program.

apollo2fix

Ken Mattingly, whose handwriting appears in the flight plan in red ink, was originally slated to be Command Module Pilot. After unwittingly being exposed to the German measles, he was pulled from the mission despite Lovell’s protests, and replaced with Jack Swigert. NASA had Johnson Space Centre artist Barbara Matelski hand-draw and sign caricatures of the crew members, and inserted them in the flight plan as a surprise prank.

apollo7

The flight plan was signed and inscribed by the Apollo 13 crew, and presented by them as a gift to Turnage Robert “Bob” Lindsey, the Lead Flight Planner for Apollo 13: “To Bob – A truly perfect flight plan as far as we got. We know it would have led us by the hand the rest of the way also. Thanks for this remarkable document which we carried to the moon on odyssey 11-17 april 1970. Fred Haise. James Lovell. Jack Swigert.”

AmericasCup

June has been a busy month for the island of Bermuda. Located in the Atlantic, roughly 700 miles off of the coast of North Carolina, Bermuda has played host to the 35th America’s Cup, the oldest trophy in International Sports. The sailing regatta has seen teams from Sweden, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, the United States, and New Zealand compete against each other on AC45F catamarans in the Great Sound, a body of water located in the center of the hook shaped, reef encircled island. However, The AC45F’s are not the only boats racing in the turquoise waters; earlier this month saw the America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta take place with yachts in class A, B, C, and J competing against each other off the islands South Shore.

Rego Sotheby’s International Realty, based in Bermuda, had front row seats to the enjoyable race. With the Atlantic Ocean surrounding the 21-square-foot island, many homes are fortunate enough to have the ideal vantage points to enjoy the races in Bermuda’s natural turquoise arena.
